It also began the widespread of jazz 21 st Century: Music still has the effect it did in the 20 th century, it’s just more popular. Everyone hears music and those that make music are more famous than they would’ve been in the 20 th Century.

8 How does it reflect the times? Basically, for both centuries, the singers and songwriters talked about the struggles or good things that occurred in the time period they lived in. For example, some blues songs written by African Americans might’ve spoken about racism in the 1900s. Another example would be a young artist like Justin Bieber singing about heartbreaks.

9 Interview Part Interviewee: Jerry Balleza (my grandfather) What was it? “It was an outlet for those who had no other way to express themselves or those that enjoyed creating music.” How prevalent was it? “Music, especially when it was well-liked, spread fairly quickly although not as fast as it does today.” What did it cause? “Many people related to songs and it made music even more popular, especially jazz and blues.” How does it reflect the times? “It reflected what some people were thinking and their stories of what they were going through.”
