2 Definition: A tessellation is created when a congruent shape is repeated over and over again covering a plane without any gaps or overlaps. Shapes and objects that fit together to form a repeating pattern.

3 Artist or Mathematician: M.C. Escher Escher can be regarded as the 'Father' of modern tessellations. At 68, he stated, "Filling the plane has become a real mania to which I have become addicted and from which I sometimes find it hard to tear myself away."
