1. WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST EARNEST: Money which in purchases is given as a pledge or deposit that the full amount will subsequently be paid. Also translated pledge. BLESSED WITH THE EARNEST OR FIRST-FRUITS OF THE SPIRT FIRST-FRUITS: In the OT the first-fruits were given to God and to His priests at harvest feasts. The first-fruits were the choicest part of the harvest. ( Exd 23:19) In the context of the NT first- fruits conveys an idea not only of superiority but also implies that there is more to come. 3. Born of the Spirit The operation by which Christ is begotten in the one who exercises saving faith. John 3:6-7 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.’ What does it mean born of the flesh is flesh? What does it mean born of the Spirit is spirit? 4. Baptized by the Spirit A work of the Holy Spirit by which the believer is joined to Christ’s Body and comes to be in Christ, and therefore a partaker of all that Christ is. 1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. 5. Indwelt or Anointed by the Spirit The presence of the Spirit equips the believer for every conflict and service. 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. 1 John 3:24 The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. 6. Sealed by the Spirit The work of God the Holy Spirit by which the believer is made secure unto the day of redemption. 7. Filled with the Spirit The believer is filled with the Spirit with the Spirit. In this ministry the Spirit releases His power and effectiveness in the heart of whom He dwells. 8. Attitude 2 Cor 5:1-9 For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven, inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked. For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life. Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge. Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord--for we walk by faith, not by sight-- we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him There is more to come. It’s all about pleasing God and it’s all because of Him that we are able to please Him.
