1 Welcome to Health and Social Care Double GCSE award A*A*- GG

2 What is a vocational GCSE in Health and Social Care? A work-related qualification 2 A*-G pass GCSE’s 3 units of work to study with 2 portfolios to submit worth 66% of the final grade. Exam making up the 34%. Is recognised by all employers and colleges Note- it is NOT a certificate of ocupational competence.

3 Why study this course? You will get a ‘taster’ of what it might be like to work in the Health and Social Care sector. Gives a solid grounding in the knowledge required for further levels of study that offer certificates of occupational competence. You will have fun!

4 What will you study? You have to complete 3 units of study during the 2 year course. During the course you will have to complete 2 portfolios based on in-depth studies of ‘clients’. Some of your assignments will be written, some role-play, some based on your observations and experiences in work settings.

5 What are the 3 units about?

6 Unit 1-Health,Social Care and early Years Learning outcomes On completion of this unit a learner should: Know the range of care needs for the major client groups Understand what range of services exist to meet peoples needs and how these are organised How people can access services and what barriers exist to stop people accessing the services. The role and skill of people who provide health, socila care and early years provision. The values that underpin all care work with clients.

7 Unit 2: Promoting Health and Well-being Learning outcomes On completion of this unit a learner should: Be able to give a definition of health and well-being. Know the common factors that affect our health. Understand the methods used to measure an individual’s physical health. Know how to promote and support health improvements for an individual.

8 Unit 3: Understanding personal development and relationships. Learning outcomes On completion of this unit a learner should: Know the stages and patterns of human growth and development. Understand the different factors that affect human growth and development. Have learnt about the development of self-concept and personal relationships. Be familiar with major life changes and how people deal with them. Understand the role of relationships in personal development.

9 What do we expect? You need to attend all your lessons You need to keep up to date with the tasks that we set. Ask for help when you need it. Keep your work neatly filed. Work hard- you can achieve highly on this course!
