Movies During the war Saturday was the most popular day for families to go to the movies In 1942 a movie cost ten cents Movies usually began with a short cartoon and a black and white newsreel called “Movietone News” usually followed The “Movietone News” kept Americans up to date with the war events happening overseas Between each movie a newsreel usually lasting about ten minutes was shown. These newsreels featured images of soldiers and showed people how the war was going. The movies was an escape for families during the time of war At the beginning of the war movies were about war and fighting but later were changed to the most popular movies such as western and romantic. These movies took people’s minds of the stressfulness of war

Radio and Comics Radio was the number one source of news for Americans during the war Radios were an easy way for people to stay involved with the war Each day dramas, comedies, action, romantic, and children’s programs were played over the radio Superman and Lone Ranger were popular children’s radio programs during the war The government was worried about the stress of women during the war so they made radio programs such as “workers playtime” which would broadcast on factory floors while the women worked Comics were also a popular pass time during the war that took peoples minds off the everyday stress of war The most popular comic strips were Blondie, Little Orphan Annie, Terry and the Pirates, Dick Tracy, and The Gumps.
