Math Homework Measuring Angles Worksheet (put worksheet in your HW folder) Individuals: You will need your Study Links & Student Journal for today’s class. Monday, January 12 th

Target/Objective: I can use a full-circle & half-circle protractor to measure and draw angles. Unit 6: Lesson 7

Measuring Angles Practice Measuring Angles Worksheet (front and back) – Pass out worksheet and geometry template Let’s practice measuring the first angle with our full-circle protractor. Complete the remaining problems; checking your work with your shoulder partner. Early Finishers: Study Links pg. 133

Math Vocabulary Review Angle: formed by 2 rays or 2 line segments that share the same endpoint. Vertex: the endpoint where the rays or line segments meet in an angle.

Naming an Angle The vertex must always be in the middle, between the points on the side. This angle can be named: – Angle ABC – Angle CBA – ABC – CBA

Angles Less than 90° = 90° Greater than 90° Less than 180 ° = 180° Greater than 180° Less than 360 ° = 360°

Math Message For today’s Math Message, we will use our journals. Turn to pg. 157 and independently complete the questions. Make sure to read ALL of the directions. Early Finishers: Math Boxes pg. 156

Half-Circle Protractor Without the directional arc, this angle could represent a rotation less that 180° or a rotation greater than 180°. Usually, if no arc is shown, the smaller of the two angles is intended to be measured.

Drawing Angles with a Protractor First, put the center of the protractor over the vertex of the angle. One side of the angle must be on the base line of the protractor.

Drawing Angles with a Protractor Find the place where the other side of the angle crosses a mark on the edge of the protractor. If the angle is acute, less than 90°, use the smaller number. If the angle is obtuse, greater than 90°, use the larger number.

Practice Drawing Angles In your journal, turn to pg. 158 and practice drawing angles using the half-circle protractor. Check your work with your shoulder partner. Early Finishers: Math Boxes pg. 159 Voice Level: 1 Time: End of Class

Wrap Up! Did we achieve our target/objective? – I can use a full-circle & half-circle protractor to measure and draw angles. Individuals: Get ready to move classes!
