4 What is Sun Corridor Network?  Arizona’s Tri-University Research & Education Network. Collaboration among ASU, NAU, and UofA. Sponsored by Arizona Board of Regents.  Enables heightened collaboration and more educational opportunities for Arizona public schools, colleges, libraries, museums and state universities.  Through very high speed network services, provides access to research and education digital applications, content and programs throughout the U.S. and beyond.

5 What is Sun Corridor Network?  Comprised of 100gbs connections between Tucson & Phoenix; 10gbs between Phoenix & Flagstaff  Two 100gbs connections to Internet2; Tucson & Phoenix  24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) at UA UITS  Enables partnerships and shared resources among Arizona members  Enables subscriber access to Internet2's national network infrastructure, community and services

6 What is Internet2?  A community of academic, research, industry and government organizations in advanced networking and applications for learning and research  A national backbone network - including the most advanced 100 gigabit networking technologies  Optimized research and education collaboration among;  ~300 member higher education institutions  ~50 leading science, education and technology partners e.g. NASA, NOAA, NSF  89 industry partners

7 What can you do at 100 Gbps?  Every one of Arizona's ~1 million enrolled K-12 students could download an eBook simultaneously in just over two minutes  Transfer daily data equivalent to 80 million file cabinets filled with text  Transmitted 300,000 X-rays or 8.5 million electronic medical records in just one minute

8 Low Quality of Service Requirements Speed Requirements Rationale High bandwidth is needed for applications such as HD videoconferencing, content streaming, and large file sharing and transfer Symmetric bandwidth helps with real time 2-way communication such as videoconferencing, video chat, large file transfer, and VoIP (low) High Quality of Service (QoS), in particular low latency, is needed for real time applications. 9 What are the possibilities?  Teachers can bring into their classrooms resources from the Smithsonian Institution, PBS Learning Media, the Digital Public Library of America, the Hadron Collider, the National Park Service and other programs from around the world  High school labs can increase the scope of experiments that students can perform with remote access to perform experiments through iLabsCentral, at Northwestern University  Access to rich multimedia digital collections; real-time e- science, real-time e-discovery; and On-demand streaming video  Use of high-definition, interactive, multipoint videoconferencing for sharing teaching resources  Online educational gaming, immersive learning environments and visualization methodologies

11 What are the requirements & cost?  Be an eligible user and complete MSA or IGA  Obtain connectivity to one of three Sun Corridor Point of Presence (POP) locations from your local telecommunications provider  Flagstaff  Tucson  Phoenix  Sun Corridor subscription fee for Internet2 national network:  $1.70 per Mbps per month flat rate charge based on the amount of bandwidth subscribed. For example:  10 mbps - $204/annually  50 mbps - $1,020/annually  100 mbps - $2,040/annually
