2 What are government agencies? Governments agencies are permanent or semi-permanent organizations responsible for the oversight and the administration of specific functions.

3 W WHO( World Health Organization ) The World Health Organization is an specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with the international public health.It was established on april 7 1948 and its headquarters are located in Geneva,Switzerland.

4 USDHHS( United States Department of Health and Human Services ) A national agency which goal is to protect the health of all the Americans and provide essential human services. Before the Department of Education was Created the USDHHS was called the Department of Health,and Welfare (HEW)

5 CDC( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ) The CDC is a Federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services.Its main goal is to protect the public health through control and prevention of disease.The CDC researches and provides information of infectious and noninfectious diseases.

6 NIH( National Institute of Health ) The NIH is the part of the DHHS that conducts health and biomedical health- related research. The goal of the NIH is to help prevent,diagnose,and treat disease and disability.

7 FDA( Food and Drug Administration ) is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety and over the counter drugs.The FDA doesn’t regulate vitamins.

8 OSHA( Occupational Safety and Health Administration ) The agency is charged with enforcing a variety of statutes and regulations.OSHA is responsible for enforcing its standards on regulated entities.

9 AHCPR( Agency for HealthCare Policy and Research ) The AHCPR is a federal agency that identifies standards of treatment that are provided by health care facilities and review nursing home neglect cases.
