2 Electromagnetic waves are formed when an electric field couples with a magnetic field. EM waves are transverse waves because they are made of vibrating electric and magnetic fields perpendicular to each other, and to the direction of the wave.

4 EM SPECTRUM The Electromagnetic spectrum is the collection of all possible frequencies of electromagnetic radiation. EM Radiation is energy that travels and spreads out as it goes and is classified by wavelength into seven sections: 1.Radio wave 2. Microwave 3. Infrared, 4.Visible Light 5.Ultraviolet 6.X-rays 7.Gamma rays Radiation is energy that travels and spreads out as it goes.

6 Radio Spectrum Radio spectrum is classified by wavelength into:  VLF, Long wave, Medium wave, Short wave  VHF, UHF,SHF, EHF

7 The Electromagnetic Spectrum ELF – Extremely Low Frequency 30- 300Hz VF- Voice Frequency 300- 3KHz VLF –Very Low Frequencies 3-30KHz LF –Low Frequencies 30-300 KHz MF –Medium Frequencies 300 -3000 KHz. HF –High Frequencies 3MHz –30 MHz VHF –Very High Frequencies 30 MHz –300 MHz UHF –Ultra High Frequencies 300 MHz –3 GHz SHF –Super High Frequencies 3 GHz –30 GHz EHF –Extremely High Frequencies 30 GHz –300 GHz

8 Radio waves: These are EM waves with the longest wavelength and shortest frequency. Microwave : Frequencies between 3- 30 GHz for instance microwave oven. Infrared: It has shorter wavelength and higher frequency than microwave.

9 Visible light :is the part of the EM spectrum which can be detected by the human eye

10 Ultraviolent Ray: It has a shorter wavelength and higher frequency than visible light X Ray: It has a shorter wavelength and higher frequency than UV rays. They are used to see through objects with higher thickness. Gamma Ray: It has the shortest wavelength and carry the highest frequency than X Ray.
