CRICOS Provider Code: 00113B AoL findings – example a)Feedback from one (postgraduate) unit chair - “there is an insufficient standard of English language proficiency among some of the international students”; this is an anecdote encountered reasonably often. b)In same trimester, English language was measured for AoL (GLO2 Communication) in 25 separate criteria from units in same/similar course. Criteria included: “written presentation”, “English proficiency”, “executive summary”, “spelling and grammar”. c)In 21 (of the 25) criteria, at least 85% of students met or exceeded the expected standard (for 14 of these the level was at 95% or above). d)Questions: (i) were the criteria and/or expected levels at the right standard? (ii) if yes, how do we reconcile the comment in (a) with the results?
