4 Origin of Day of the Dead Traced back to indigenous cultures Possibly started 2,500-3,000 years ago. Skulls were the original mascot or sign for Day of the Dead. Children are honored November 1st and adults on November 2 nd.

5 Beliefs People go to cemeteries to be with the souls of the dead. People leave pictures and gifts by graves for the souls to take. The intent is to be nice and good to the souls so that they look after their living love ones.

6 Day of the dead in America This is celebrated the same as in Mexico or Latin America. The holiday is most popular in Arizona and Texas. In the U.S. we seem to use art and music to help celebrate this holiday and please the souls of the dead.

7 Conclusion The Day of the Dead is a way to connect with loved ones lost and show them how you care for them. This is more popular in the southwest but it seems to be creeping north and becoming more popular every year.
