“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. Don’t settle [for less]. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” —Steve Jobs commencement address/Stanford/06.2005

A strategic vision is a road map of a company’s future, it creates a picture of a company’s destination and provides a rationale for going there

Vision Vision is a statement of how the organization would like to look at some time in the future and includes the values and philosophy for which it would like to be known.

Vision Mission Reality Operations Policies Strategies Values Norms Beliefs Sentiments GoalsUncertainties Main course of activities and priorities Actions Environment The schematics of environment in which the organization lives

The vision doesn’t say anything about profits, safety, ethics, employee development, new products or services, or any of the many other things a successful business must focus on.

What vision is  An organizational charter of core values and principles  The headwater for our priorities, plans, and goals  A puller (not pusher) into the future  A determination and publication of what makes us unique  A declaration of interdependence

What vision isn’t A “high concept“ statement, a motto or literature An advertising slogan A strategy or plan A view from the top A history of our proud past A “soft“ business issue Passionless

Characteristics of a good vision statement  Brief  Verifiable  Focused  Understandable to all employees  Inspirational

The need for vision  To guide us  To remind us  To inspire us  To control us  To free us
