Personal Protective Equipment Objective: To know what PPE is available and the proper uses and needs for it –Wear exam gloves at all times when working with chemicals and hazardous materials –Wear goggles or safety glasses when doing tasks that may risk eye injury –Wear ear plugs when working in noisy areas

Zoonotic Hazards _________– organism that invades the skin, contagious (ringworm) Direct contact – transmission of a disease through a direct source Indirect contact – transmission of a disease through an indirect source Fungus

17 Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) OSHA binder – includes safety plans and list of all chemicals or other products that should be labeled The employee is responsible to read and understand the facility’s practice safety manual and regulations and to read the MSDS safety sheets properly

Controlled Substances By law, drugs that have the potential for abuse and addiction must be kept in a locked cabinet Schedule I-V, the lower the number the less the addiction potential Drug Enforcement Administration –regulates the medications –veterinarians are required to obtain a DEA license

Controlled Substances Controlled substance log –must be maintained accurately –must be kept on file for 2 years –information must be recorded and accurate and available for inspection at any time
