LAT Environmental Test PDR1 GLAST LAT Project3-4 May 2005 LAT Environmental Test Planning and Design Review 3-4 May 2005 Overview LAT Environmental Test Planning and Design Review 3-4 May 2005 Overview Martin Nordby

LAT Environmental Test PDR2 GLAST LAT Project3-4 May 2005 Goals of This Review Where we are now –This is likely the last time that we will review our overall test program for the LAT environmental testing until the Test Readiness Review –Much of what we will be presenting and reviewing has been gone over in one forum or another over the past 3-4 months, but not all in one place and time Goals of this review –1. Approve the environmental test sequence—both the general sequence of tests, as well as the specific sequencing of the segments of each test that are presented as part of the individual test plans –2. Approve the preliminary designs for the test MGSE and EGSE for all of the tests –3. Approve the goals and plans for each of the tests—Test Plans will be sent out for review soon, but this review is intended to finalize the structure and major segments of the tests Where we are going –After this review, we will be holding only detailed reviews to cover specific topics –In particular There will likely be individual table-top reviews of the Test Plans as they are sent out for release CDR’s will be held prior to sending the large pieces of MGSE Pathfinder review will be held before we start the pathfinder program for data systems or mechanical operations TRR will be held after the pathfinder program is complete and procedures updated—this may be part of the LAT pre-ship review, focusing on plans, procedures, and logistics, and demonstrating that we are ready to receive the LAT at NRL Individual TRR’s for each test—focusing on the specifics for each test, and a more technical discipline review of the test program

LAT Environmental Test PDR3 GLAST LAT Project3-4 May 2005 Environmental Test Sequence LAT-MD-00408, the “LAT Instrument Performance Verification Plan” delineates the basic content and order of all required LAT environmental tests –This responds to the requirements put forth in the MAR, GEVS, IRD, and other governing documents LAT-MD-02717, the “LAT Environmental Test Sequence” details the order of environmental tests, and the major operational steps –This is subservient to the LAT-MD-00408, but includes significantly more operational detail –This bridges the logistics gap between the MD-00408 and the Test Plans, much as LAT- MD-006786, the “LAT Integration Sequence” provides direction for LAT integration LAT-MD-00408 needs to be updated to reflect the final sequence agreed on by all test directors and subject-matter leads. Below is the updated sequence that will be baselined Sine Vibe EMI/EMC L L Reconfig. LAT Acoustic L T-CycleT-Bal Remove Radiators Weight, CG Ship to Spectrum C C L Receive, Unpack C L L Limited Performance Comprehensive Performance SVAC Test C S L Pack LAT L Final CPT C Perform Reference CPT (at SLAC) S 4X Mount Radiators L SCS Updated LAT Environmental Test Sequence

LAT Environmental Test PDR4 GLAST LAT Project3-4 May 2005 Test Sequence Walk-Through Reference CPT –Perform Reference CPT at SLAC prior to shipping Receiving and Prep –Unpack LAT; leave on pallet base (A-59 high bay) –Run CPT: establish instrument health prior to start of env testing (LAT clean tent) Sine Vibe Test –Move to vibe test lab –Run LPT: on vibe table expander head, prior to start of test –Perform Z-axis vibe –Run LPT: on vibe table expander head, prior to Z-axis tear-down –Move LAT to slip table and perform X-axis vibe –Run LPT: on slip table, prior to X-axis tear-down –Re-orient LAT on slip table and perform Y-axis vibe –Run LPT: on slip table, prior to removing LAT –Move LAT back to A-59 high bay clean tent Re-configure LAT –Hoist LAT onto Test Stand (A-59 high bay) EMI/EMC Test –Move to anechoic chamber –Run LPT: in anechoic chamber, prior to test –Perform EMI/EMC testing –Run LPT: after test, before breaking config –Move LAT back to A-59 high bay

LAT Environmental Test PDR5 GLAST LAT Project3-4 May 2005 Test Sequence Walk-Through (cont. 1) Install Radiators –Integrate Radiators (A-59 high bay) –Run Radiator CPT after both Radiators are installed (LAT clean tent) –Run LAT LPT (LAT clean tent) Acoustic Test –Move to acoustic test cell –Run LPT: in acoustic test cell, prior to test –Perform Acoustic test –Run LPT: in acoustic chamber, prior to removing LAT –Move LAT back to A-59 high bay Re-orient LAT (A-59 high bay) –Mount extension beams to Test Stand –Rotate LAT 90 degrees using two-hook lift and spreader bars Prep for Thermal-Vacuum Test (A-59 high bay) –Pick up LAT and set on T-Vac cart –Move LAT to T-Vac chamber and prep for test –Roll LAT into chamber –Run CPT: in T-Vac chamber, prior to door closing –Run SVAC test: in T-Vac chamber, prior to door closing –Close chamber door

LAT Environmental Test PDR6 GLAST LAT Project3-4 May 2005 Test Sequence Walk-Through (cont. 2) Thermal-Vacuum Test (T-Vac chamber) –Pump down –Bake out –Hot survival: run Initialization, Aliveness, and CPT tests –Thermal-balance hot: run LPT, SVAC, TCS Perf tests –Thermal-balance cold: run LPT, SVAC, TCS Perf tests –Cold survival: run Initialization, Aliveness, and CPT tests –Thermal cycle hot (2): run LPT –Thermal cycle cold (2): run LPT –Thermal cycle hot (3): run LPT –Thermal cycle cold (3): run LPT –Thermal cycle hot (4): run CPT –Thermal cycle cold (4): run CPT –Return to ambient temperature –Vent chamber –Run final LAT CPT: in T-Vac chamber after venting and opening doors –Run SVAC: in T-Vac chamber after venting and opening door –Break configuration and return LAT to A-59 high bay

LAT Environmental Test PDR7 GLAST LAT Project3-4 May 2005 Test Sequence Walk-Through (cont. 3) Remove Radiators (A-59 high bay) –Mount extension beams to Test Stand –Rotate LAT 90 degrees back to vertical using two-hook lift and spreader bars –Remove and pack Radiators Weight and C.G. Measurement (A-59 high bay) –Hoist LAT off Test Stand onto CG Plate –Measure LAT weight and center of gravity –Hoist LAT off CG Plate and onto pallet base –Move into clean tent Pre-Ship Review Pack LAT and Ship –Prep and seal Transport Container –Ship to Spectrum
