NCSM’s PRIME Leadership Framework  Framework to guide the work of novice and veteran leaders in mathematics.  A tool to guide conversations and actions about leadership around indicators of exemplary practice.  It provides language, focus and actions for professional conversations with colleagues in the context of the workplace. NCSM (2008). Principles and Indicators for Mathematics Education Leaders (PRIME). The Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership (MMP), an initiative of the Milwaukee Partnership Academy (MPA), is supported with funding by the National Science Foundation.

NCSM’s PRIME Leadership Framework Leadership is founded upon:  Three essential themes 1. Success for every student, teacher and leader. 2. Research-informed teacher actions 3. Teacher collaboration and professional learning  Four essential principles 1. Equity Leadership 2. Teaching & Learning Leadership 3. Curriculum Leadership 4. Assessment Leadership NCSM (2008). Principles and Indicators for Mathematics Education Leaders (PRIME). The Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership (MMP), an initiative of the Milwaukee Partnership Academy (MPA), is supported with funding by the National Science Foundation.

Stage 1: Know & Model Leadership of Self Stages of Leadership Stage 3: Advocate & Systematize Leadership in the Extended Community NCSM (2008). Principles and Indicators for Mathematics Education Leaders (PRIME). Stage 2: Collaborate & Implement Leadership of Others

 Honoring Ideas  Listening to others  Respecting all viewpoints  Everyone contributes Norms of Table Members The Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership (MMP), an initiative of the Milwaukee Partnership Academy (MPA), is supported with funding by the National Science Foundation.

Stepping Back into Assessment Leadership Principle 2008-09  Step 1: Read the Assessment Principle on pages 66-67 from the PRIME Leadership Framework book.  Step 2: Looking at the three Indicators and Stages, circle the stage descriptors that best describe the work you have been doing.  Step 3: Jot down examples of your work in the margin.  Step 4: When cued, share with your table one of the Indicators and a work example. The Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership (MMP), an initiative of the Milwaukee Partnership Academy (MPA), is supported with funding by the National Science Foundation.

Assessment Leadership Principle 4: Ensure timely, accurate monitoring of student learning and adjustment of teacher instruction for improved student learning. Indicator 1: Every teacher uses student assessments that are congruent and aligned by grade level or course content. Indicator 2. Every teacher uses formative assessment processes to inform teacher practice and student learning. Indicator 3. Every teacher uses summative assessment data to evaluate mathematics grade level, course, and program effectiveness. The Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership (MMP), an initiative of the Milwaukee Partnership Academy (MPA), is supported with funding by the National Science Foundation.

 Step 1 On your own: Read pages 22-24 The NCSM Vision and Action Indicators of the Teaching and Learning Principle. Record your ideas and reactions in your notebook.  Step 2: Table discussion: Share one idea per person. NCSM Vision of the Teaching and Learning Leadership Principle The Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership (MMP), an initiative of the Milwaukee Partnership Academy (MPA), is supported with funding by the National Science Foundation.

 It all goes back to the teaching and learning of meaningful mathematics in the classroom.  Classroom instruction is key to learning.  The planning for instruction and instructional practices must align with well articulated goals, instruction, and assessment.  Assessment and instruction are tightly intertwined. Teaching and Learning Principle Key Ideas The Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership (MMP), an initiative of the Milwaukee Partnership Academy (MPA), is supported with funding by the National Science Foundation.
