General Appearance The Belgian Shepherd Dog is a mediolineal dog, harmoniously proportioned, combining elegance and power, of medium size, with dry, strong muscle, fitting into a square, rustic, used to the open air life and built to resist the frequent atmospheric variations of the Belgian climate.

General Appearance Through the harmony of its shape and its high head carriage, the Belgian Shepherd Dog should give the impression of that elegant strength which has become the heritage of the selected representatives of a working breed. The Belgian Shepherd Dog is to be judged in its natural stance, without physical contact with the handler.

Great Type

WHITE SWISS SHEPHERD DOG(Weisser Schweizer Scherhund)(Berger Blanc Suisse) The White Shepherd is a medium-sized, well-balanced, muscular dog, slightly longer than tall, with a medium length, pure white coat, erect ears, and a low- set natural tail that normally reaches to the hock and is carried in a slight curve like a saber.

WHITE SWISS SHEPHERD DOG(Weisser Schweizer Scherhund)(Berger Blanc Suisse) The White Shepherd is solid without bulkiness and should be shown in lean, hard physical condition. The outline of the White Shepherd is made up of smooth curves rather than angles.

WHITE SWISS SHEPHERD DOG(Weisser Schweizer Scherhund)(Berger Blanc Suisse) When trotting, the White Shepherd moves with a long, efficient stride that is driven by a powerful forward thrust from the hindquarters. The rear leg, moving forward, swings under the foreleg and touches down in the place where the forefoot left an imprint. Gender differences are readily apparent.

Dutch Shepherds

Dutch Shepherd Some History Dutch Shepherds have been distinguished from the other varieties of working line shepherds in a relatively short period of time, a little over a hundred years. Originally used by human shepherds to herd, guard and defend flocks of sheep on the flat fields of Holland, they were prized for their workability and guard drive. The late nineteenth century brought a reduction in the amount of sheep herds in Holland and therefore a loss of work for shepherds and their Dutch Shepherd dogs alike. Interest started to develop in owning and showing these highly intelligent dogs and the Nederlandse Herdershonden Club (Dutch Shepherd Dog Club) was formed as a result.

Dutch Shepherds General appearance: A medium-sized, medium-weight, well- proportioned, well-muscled dog of powerful, well-balanced build, with an intelligent expression and lively temperament. Size: The body is longer than high, in a proportion of 10 : 9

Dutch Shepherds General appearance: There are three varieties, distinguished by coat-type: short-haired, long-haired, and rough-haired The short-haired and long-haired varieties do not require a lot of grooming, except in the moulting period. Brushing and combing the dog thoroughly once a week should suffice. The rough-haired variety requires professional trimming twice a year.

Dutch Shepherds Coloring: The required colors for the short-haired and long-haired varieties are: gold or silver brindle. For the rough-haired variety the colors are: gold or silver brindle, blue-grey and salt and pepper.

Dutch Shepherds _ Summary The Dutch Shepherd comes in three varieties: long- haired (long, straight, flat and harsh), short-haired (fine and dense) and wire-haired (medium length and wiry).

Dutch Shepherds _ Summary Show dogs should not display much white on their chest and feet. Although the coat types vary, the color possibilities remain the same for each: various shades of brindle, including gray, yellow, silver, red or gold brindle, and blue.

Dutch Shepherds _ Summary The short-haired variety is very widespread in Holland, while the wire-haired is less common and the long-haired is very rare. The body is muscular and symmetrical. The muzzle is long and the teeth are strong and regular. The eyes are dark and slightly slanting and the relatively small ears are stiffly erect. The tail is slightly curved.

Dutch Shepherds _ Summary The chest and belly are deep and not too drawn up. The feet are relatively small and do not have dewclaws. The toes are well arched. The nails and pads are black. Protective hair grows between the toes.
