1 Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” 1893 Shelby “Rainer: Catteau

2  Oil, Water color, Acrylic. All types of paints used to make art work seen all around the world.  Painting has been around since the first man.  Painting has changed over the years. In the sense of style and types of paints used.

3 Defintion: an artistic and literary movement originating in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century, which sought to express emotions rather than to represent external reality: characterized by the use of symbolism and of exaggeration and distortion.

4  Expressionist painters throughout time in Germany consist of Edvard Munch and Van Gogh.  These artist paved the way for expressionism to grow as a prevalent art in Germany and then spread to Europe and the rest of the world. Vincent Van Gogh Edvard Munch Otto Dix

5  Edvard Munch, painter of “The Scream”, was noted as one of the greatest influences on expressionist art in Germany.  Munch's convulsed and tortuous art was formed by the misery and conflicts of his time, and, even more important, by his own unhappy life Edvard Munchs Vampire (1893)

7  Van Gogh, being an unhappy and depressed person most of his life, studied art in Belgium where he was determined to create somber works of “beauty” for the world. Later, after creating countless works of art, shot himself due to his depression. Vincent Van Gogh “Starry Night” (1889)

9 Otto Dix’ paintings were started after his time spent in the war. He depicted paintings to show his feeling toward the fighting, and to show how unnecessary and violent the war was becoming. Otto Dix’ “The Skat Players” 1920
