Who I am February 15, 2015 Pastor David Kobelin Part

I.Living It! – How have you lived being a.Bought with a price, belonging to God; rescued from Satan's domain and transferred into the kingdom of Christ, the evil one cannot touch you; adopted and you have become a child of God. b.Having a spirit of power, love and self-discipline/sound mind.

II.In Christ a.In Christ, I am a member of Christ’s body. 1 Corinthians 12:26-27 (NASB) 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now you are Christ’s body, and individually members of it.

b.In Christ, I am one of God’s living stones, being built up in Christ as a spiritual house. I am a member of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession and created to sing his praise. 1 Peter 2:5 (NASB) 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. II.In Christ

1 Peter 2:9-10 (NKJV) 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. b.In Christ, I am one of God’s living stones, being built up in Christ as a spiritual house. I am a member of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession and created to sing his praise. II.In Christ

c.In Christ, I am firmly rooted and built up, and I have been made complete. Colossians 2:6-10 (NKJV) 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. II.In Christ

What do you get a sense of as you listen to all of these concepts/scriptures together? We are a part of a body. We are a part of a body. We are being built into something that is pretty amazing. We are being built into something that is pretty amazing. Our roots are in Him, and we are complete and have all we need. Our roots are in Him, and we are complete and have all we need.

1 Corinthians 12:12-15 (NCV) 12 A person’s body is one thing, but it has many parts. Though there are many parts to a body, all those parts make only one body. Christ is like that also. 13 Some of us are Jews, and some are Greeks. Some of us are slaves, and some are free. But we were all baptized into one body through one Spirit. And we were all made to share in the one Spirit. 14 The human body has many parts. 15 The foot might say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not part of the body.” But saying this would not stop the foot from being a part of the body. a.In Christ, I am a member of Christ’s body.

1 Corinthians 12:16-17 (NCV) 16 The ear might say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not part of the body.” But saying this would not stop the ear from being a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, it would not be able to hear. If the whole body were an ear, it would not be able to smell. a.In Christ, I am a member of Christ’s body.

1 Corinthians 12:18-25 (NCV) 18-19 If each part of the body were the same part, there would be no body. But truly God put all the parts, each one of them, in the body as he wanted them. 20 So then there are many parts, but only one body. 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the foot, “I don’t need you!” 22 No! Those parts of the body that seem to be the weaker are really necessary. 23 And the parts of the body we think are less deserving are the parts to which we give the most honor. We give special respect to the parts we want to hide. 24 The more respectable parts of our body need no special care. But God put the body together and gave more honor to the parts that need it 25 so our body would not be divided. God wanted the different parts to care the same for each other. a.In Christ, I am a member of Christ’s body.

1 Corinthians 12:26-27 (NASB) 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now you are Christ’s body, and individually members of it. Romans 12:2-6 (NCV) 2 Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect. 3 Because God has given me a special gift, I have something to say to everyone among you. Do not think you are better than you are. You must decide what you really are by the amount of faith God has given you. 4 Each one of us has a body with many parts, and these parts all have different uses. 5 In the same way, we are many, but in Christ we are all one body. Each one is a part of that body, and each part belongs to all the other parts. 6 We all have different gifts, each of which came because of the grace God gave us. a.In Christ, I am a member of Christ’s body.

b.In Christ, I am one of God’s living stones, being built up in Christ as a spiritual house. 1 Peter 2:9-10 (NKJV) 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

c.In Christ, I am firmly rooted and built up, and I have been made complete.

If I were to identify one thing that I believe I can contribute to the body of Christ here at Gardiner Community Church, it would be?

III.Summary – In Christ, we are member of His body, being built together in a way that honors Him and shows His love to others. How can you live this week ‘as if’ this is totally true? How might you live differently?
