1 WELCOME TO SPANISH CLASS Bienvenidos a la clase de español

2 Señora Braeckel Studied in Spain during college LOVE to travel, snow ski, eat chocolate, snow shoe, knit, scrapbook, and rock climb. Moved to the Houston area last August from the Western Slope in Colorado

3 What will we do this year? Learn, Review, & Reinforce our vocabulary & grammar in Spanish Improve our speaking skills Enhance our listening abilities Broaden our knowledge of culture of Spanish speaking countries and regions Strengthen our reading capabilities Expand our writing knowledge

4 Class Rules Stay in your seat from the bell until the teacher dismisses you Keep you hands, feet and objects to yourself Respond to teacher directions immediately Use polite and appropriate tone and language Come to class on time and prepared.

5 PROCEDURES Why do we have p? PROCEDURES Why do we have procedures?  A procedure is the way that we do things. To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. 6 Entering Classroom  Walk in quietly and professionally  Sit down at your assigned seat  Get out your empezamos (warm-up) and start working on it  When finished with warm-up, write in the day’s homework in your calendar  SMILE and be glad to be here

7 Tardy  Don’t let it happen- Be on Time!  If you are tardy, go to the tardy station and bring your pass to class  Sit down and start on the warm up without disrupting the class.

8 IF I WANT YOUR ATTENTION I WILL RING MY BELL Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. Face me and wait silently. Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that I have raised my hand. No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to me.

9 Headings on papers Everything must have a heading Format of heading should be:  First name and last name  Date  Class Period  Put on top right hand corner of page

10 How will I be graded in this class? Major grades (tests, quizzes, or projects) are worth 60% of your grade Daily grades (in class activities) are worth 40% of your grade. You will have a minimum of 3 Major grades per six weeks Your semester exam is worth 20% of your semester grade. The exam is cumulative; it covers all the information we have covered during the entire semester. It is possible to fail for the entire semester if you do not do well on the exam. Having a strong average before the exam will help avoid this possibility.

11 How will I be graded in this class? Quizzes in my class are weighted. While a test is weighted at 1.00 making it worth 100 out of 100, a quiz is weighted at.5, making it worth 50 out of 50. Homework is also weighted in my class. Each homework assignment is weighted at.20. At the end of the week, you will have 5 assignments adding up to 100 out of 100.

12 LATE WORK Daily Work  Minus 15 points for every day late  Not accepted after the third day

13 Leaving class  Remain in your seat until I dismiss you.  Make sure you have turned in all work and know what your assignment is.  Throw away all trash around your work area as you leave.  Return dictionaries/materials to their correct location.

14 Firedrill Calmly and quietly exit the room. Turn LEFT into the hall. Go into parking lot past cars Stay with this class. Make sure I see you & know where you are. Return to class when fire drill is completed.

15 Returning after an absence BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS go to the office and get an admit. Bring me your admit before the bell rings and get me to sign it. Do not leave me alone with it!! I will lose it. Check for assignments you missed in the make up binder when you come into class.

16 Make-up Work & Tutorials For every day you are absent you will have one day to make up your work. After this time late work penalties will apply. TUTORIAL: Monday 6:45 am Wednesday/Friday 2:30 pm

17 Leaving class early  If you know you will have to leave early for an appointment please speak to me privately before taking your seat.  Even though your parent signs you out to leave campus they still have to send a note with you the next day for you to get an excused absence.
