Mrs. Clark’s ABC’s for Kindergarten

Absence - A successful school experience is the responsibility of the children, the parent's), and the school. Your child’s progress, both academically and socially, is influenced greatly by daily participation. Regular attendance without tardiness is a key. In the event that your student is absent please make sure your child also has a written excuse for all absences when they return to school. Daily attendance is essential for learning success. If your child is going to be absent, please email or call me (464-0299 ext. 1408) to let me know of the absence and the reason for it. When your child is absent from school after an illness, a note must be sent within three days explaining the absence, or it will be coded unexcused. Arrival – The school day begins at 7:05 and ends at 2:25. Please have your child to school on time. Some children may go to breakfast prior to our day beginning. The tardy bell rings at 7:05. Attendance – It is important for continuity that your child attend school every day. A successful school year is the responsibility of the teacher, child and parents working together.

Bathroom – We go as a class to the bathroom two times a day and have a bathroom in the classroom that the children are allowed to use throughout the day. Please bring extra clothes that your child can leave in their cubby in the event that an accident happens. Backpacks - Your child is asked to bring a back pack to and from school each day. Please check the backpack daily for homework, papers, books, and notes. Please have the backpack with only school items in it upon going to school. Birthdays – We celebrate this special occasion in our room. You may purchase a special treat in the cafeteria for the children in our room. Book orders – I do send home book orders once a month. You can purchase these books at a minimal cost. We also have a book store with Scholastic books, where the children can purchase books.

Changing going home procedures – We are very careful with getting children on the correct bus, to cars, or to afterschool care. We will always send your child home by regular means unless we have a written note telling us to change the procedure. Do not rely on your child to tell us they are going home differently. We must have a written note in order to change their way of going home. Communication – A weekly syllabus will be sent home on Mondays to inform you of daily procedures for homework purposes. Notes and newsletters will be sent home also when needed. It is very important that you read these letters to keep you informed of events in the school and in the classroom. I will communicate with you personally by notes placed in your child's folder, phone calls, or email. Please feel free to do the same. It is important that we communicate often. Conferences – We will have a conference instead of a report card after the first nine weeks of school. A paper to sign up for the conferences will go in your child’s folder. I will have intermittent conferences throughout the year. Contact information – Snow Creek Elementary – 828-256-2335 Diane Clark@catawbaschools.net

Field trips – We have tentatively planned several field trips for the year. Parents are welcome to attend. We will always send permission forms well in advance of the trip. Children are not allowed to ride to the field trip with their parent; they will need to ride to the venue on the bus. They are allowed to ride home with their parent after the parent has signed them out. Folders – Everyday your child will bring their folder home. Please check it for notes and papers. Many times we have daily notes that go home. All correspondence takes place through this means of communication. Make sure that you check it on a daily basis.

Guests – We allow guests at lunch after the first few weeks of school. This allows up to get acquainted with lunch procedures. Please wait outside the cafeteria for us.
