2. KEEPING IT CLEAN. LASER PRINTERS CAN GET DIRTY IN TWO COMMON WAYS THOSE WAYS ARE EXCESS TONER, OVERTIME IT WILL SLOWLY BUILD UP AND SLOWLY COAT THE PRINTER. THE OTHER WAY IS PAPER DUST ALSO KNOWN AS PAPER DANDER, THIS BUILDS UP WHERE THE PAPER ROLLS OUT AND THE PAPER IS GRABED AT. KEEP IT CLEAN AND YOUR LASER PRINTER WILL LAST FOR MANY YEARS.

3. PERIODIC MAINTENANCE THERE ARE CERTAIN COMPONETS THAT YOUR LASER PRINTER NEED OTHER THAN KEEPING IT CLEAN. YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE OZONE FILTER, THE FUSER ASSEMBLY, AND IF YOU HAVE VISABLE DAMAGE REPLACE THE FUSER UNIT

4. LASER PRINTER PROBLEMS THE MOST PROBLEMS THAT YOU MAY HAVE WITH A LASER PRINTER IS POOR OUTPUT. THE MOST IMPORTANT TEST THAT YOU CAN PREFORM IS CALLED A DIANOSTIC PRINTER PAGE OR MAYBE AN ENGINE TEST PAGE. OTHER PROBLEMS THAT MAY OCCUR IS BLANK PAPER, DIRTY PRINT OUTS, GHOSTING, AND ALSO LIGHT GHOSTING VERSUS DARK GHOSTING.

6. Vertical White Lines Vertical white lines are usually due to clogged toner preventing the proper dispersion of toner on the drum. Try shaking the toner cartridge to dislodge the cog. If that doesn’t work, replace the toner cartridge.

7. Blotchy Print This is most commonly due to uneven dispersion of toner, especially if the toner is low. Try shaking the toner from side to side and then try to print. Also be sure that the printer is sitting level. Finally, make sure the paper is not wet in spots.

8. SPOTTY PRINT IF THE SPOTS APPEAR AT REGULAR INTERVALS, THE DRUM MAY BE DAMAGED OR SOME TONER MAYBE STUCK TO THE FUSER ROLLERS.

9. EMBOSSED EFFECT IF YOUR PRINTS COME OUT WITH AN ODD SHAPED SHAPE IN THE PRINT KINDA LIKE PUTTING AN PENNY UNDER A PIECE OF PAPER AND COLORING OVER IT THERE IS A FOREIGN OBJECT UNDER THE ROLL.

10. INCOMPLETE CHARACTERS IF YOUR CHARACTERS THAT YOU TYPE ARE IMCOMPLETE. THIS CAN BE FIXED BY INCREASING THE PRINT DENSITY

You can go to the “posts” to see what issues other people are having. Write at least 5 sentences on how to fix it or create a 5 slide powerpoint.

In class Activity Search the internet (but NOT fixyourownprinter.com) for printer issues such as: Blotchy print, spotty print, embossed effect, vertical white lines, incomplete characters, or ghosting. Choose at least 3 of these problems and find solutions to them. Explain the solution in your own words (NOT copy and paste) and cite your sources.
