Why learn about September 11? To gain an understanding of a unique modern historical event A major part of which essentially occurred in “our backyard” See how the events of this day brought to the forefront the sense of selflessness, dedication, and service of the rescue workers and civilians both in NYC and around the country Understand the sacrifice made by so many rescue workers and civilians that day

Before the trip… Complete initial thoughts assignment Complete an “oral history” with a person who was in some way involved with the events of 9/11 Can be anyone who was in NYC that day If you cannot find someone, see me immediately- I will connect you with someone.

Don’t Stress… This project will be an ongoing project throughout the school year… Therefore, we HAVE TIME to make it “perfect”… but DO NOT PROCRASTINATE…

And Now… Let’s begin…

Initial thoughts… Write one paragraph (4-6 complete sentences), that answers the following questions: What do you know of the events surrounding September 11? How has it affected (or not affected) your life? What images come to mind when it is mentioned? What questions do you have about the events of that day and the days following that you hope to have answered during this unit and on our trip? **You are allowed to use 1 st person for this assignment
