2 Aims To identify key aspects of E and D in Learning and Skills Provision To consider and review our current arrangements To plan how to improve our provision to benefit learners To raise awareness, simplify expectations and promote change

5 When Ofsted refers to E and D it includes poverty and deprivation +: Age Disability Gender Faith and religious belief Race Sexual orientation Transgender

6 E and D include social and educational inclusion From equal access to participation Actively promoting positive relationships and respect for human rights Understanding and respecting differences Taking positive actions to tackle unfair and unlawful discrimination, inequality and unfairness

7 continued Adopting practices that make best use of the differing skills and talents of individuals Focusing on improving outcomes that raise standards and improve lives

8 Key Point Ofsted do not test compliance against equality legislation but judge a provider’s practice and outcomes Remember the two operating principles Narrowing the achievement gap Promote E and D, tackle discrimination

9 Expectations Demonstrate planning and impact through the self evaluation process Effective training for Staff Effective handling of complaints, specifically about race, gender and disability Progress and development of different groups of learners

10 Expectations continued….. Arrangements for consulting with users and stakeholders How outcomes and achievement are achieved and published Protection from harassment Sets challenging targets Uses data to monitor engagement and performance

12 Grades…..”satisfactory” Must be satisfactory impact Adequately promotes E and D Adequately tackles discrimination Improving outcomes and closing gaps Most learners are progressing

13 Grades…..”good” Actively promoting E and D Actively tackling discrimination Improving outcomes and effectively closing gaps Progressing majority of learners including those from vulnerable groups

14 Grades……”outstanding” Effectively and actively promoting E and D and unfair discrimination Effective in improving outcomes for individuals and closing achievement gaps Almost all learners progress and achieve very well.

15 Grades…..”inadequate” No clear impact in relation to E and D Not adequately promoting E and D or promoting unfair desrimination Not meeting the Ofsted E and D principles Remember the limiting judgements

16 Examples of good practice Before the programme Adequate assessment of needs? Identification of support needs? Arrangements for support? Adjustments for needs? Accurate information for support and teaching/assessment staff

17 Examples of good practice On programme Are resources up to date? Do staff know how to operate adaptive and access technology? How accessible are training centres? Does support for dyslexia focus on enabling learners to develop coping strategies or is the work done for them?
