2. Pentecost
The feast that celebrates the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Church.

3. Prayer
“It is truly right that with full hearts and minds and voices we should praise the unseen God, the all-powerful Father, and his only Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Amen.

4. Ordinary Times
These are the times in the liturgical year that fall between Christmas and Lent and between Easter and Advent.
Just because it is called ordinary doesn’t mean it is not an important time.
Many feast days and events from the life of our Lord are celebrated at this time.

5. Feast can divided into three groups.
Holy Days
Sunday feasts
Feasts of the Saints and Our Blessed Mother

6. Sunday Feasts
Feast of the Holy Family, the model for all families is on the Sunday after Christmas.
Feast of the Epiphany is celebrated on the Sunday closest to January 6th.
The next Sunday after this we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus, which marks the beginning of his public life.

7. Holy Days of Obligation
The Immaculate Conception of Our Lady - December 8th
Christmas – December 25th
The Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God – January 1st
Ascension – forty days after Easter
The Assumption of Our Lady – August 15th
All Saint’s Day – November 1st

8. Special Commemorations
They recall events from the life of our Blessed Mother.
Others honor the saints as good examples of Christian life.

9. Colors of the Liturgical Year
We see these colors clearly in the vestments worn by the priest.
Purple symbolizes penance and sorrow, used during advent and lent.
White symbolizes joy and glory, so it is used during Christmas and Easter.
Green symbolizes life and hope, so it is used during the ordinary time, when we should be filled with hope.
Red symbolizes fire and blood. It is used on the feast of Pentecost for the Holy Spirit. We also use it for the feasts for the martyrs, apostles and evangelists.
Rose symbolizes joy during the penitential seasons such as Laetare and Gaudette Sundays.
Black symbolizes mourning and is used for the mass for the dead and All Soul’s Day.
