1 CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS

2 OBJECTIVE Students will analyze primary source speeches and video clips in order to understand the events of the Cuban Missile Crisis and how that impacted US foreign Policy under the Kennedy administration.

3 WARM UP What does the following quote mean? -Secretary of State Dean Rusk, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, 19629 "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty.... Let us never negotiate out of fear, but let us never fear to negotiate. Let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us.... And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
