4. PURPOSE The purpose of language arts is: Increase reading comprehension skills using a variety of material, both fiction and non fiction. Increase reading fluency. Increase confidence in reading skills. Build vocabulary and spelling skills. Learn skills to help organize and strengthen writing. Gain needed support for research projects and papers assigned in social studies. Design and implement special education and general education programs to meet IEP goals and ensure necessary accommodations are followed.
