1 Sequel2 Some Technical Stuff

2 When you have installed Sequel2 you will want to make sure that it works as efficiently as possible on your computer and, above all, that you can hear the music you are creating. Sequel2, like any music software application, has to communicate with your computer’s soundcard in order to play sounds and to do this works in conjunction with a little piece of software called an ASIO driver. An ASIO driver (Audio Stream Input/Output) allows a program like Sequel2 to communicate directly with the soundcard instead of having to rely on the operating system, allowing for more efficient handling of audio and a reduction in latency – the delay between a program producing a sound and it being heard by the listener. If you have a computer with a high quality soundcard (either fitted or external and connected by USB or firewire), then the chances are that the software which came with the device includes an ASIO driver specifically designed for that card, and for best results you should set up Sequel2 to use that driver. If you are using a computer with a standard soundcard you would be best to use a driver called ‘ASIO4All’, a free, downloadable driver which will allow such cards to operate far more efficiently. ASIO4All is quickly and easily installed and comes with a software manual.

3 To select an ASIO driver open the ‘Program Settings’ Page. Under the ‘Audio Settings section you will see an ‘Audio Connection’ option which, if you click to the right of this, will reveal a drop-down menu of drivers installed on your computer (if you install ASIO4All while Sequel2 is open you will have to close it and re-open for the driver to register). You will probably see ‘ASIO Multimedia Driver’ as an option. This is a driver which comes with Windows software and, though it will work, doesn’t give particularly good results with Sequel2. Select ASIO4All (or the driver for your specific soundcard if it is listed). You will be asked if you want to switch drivers – click ‘OK’. The new selection should now be listed. If you don’t hear any sound after changing to ASIO4All, make sure there isn’t another program running on the computer which might be using audio and ‘hogging’ the driver.
