Igneous Rock Rocks that are formed when melted rock from inside the earth cools and hardens.

Metamorphic Rock Rocks that form when existing rocks are heated and squeezed deep inside the Earth.

Compact/Compaction When layers of sediment are closely and firmly packed together. Usually due to the top layers putting pressure on the layers underneath.

Sediment Tiny bits of broken shells, rocks, and mineral grains.

Weathering The breaking down of rocks, soil, and minerals by exposing them to water, oxygen, wind, ice, and other outside forces.

Erosion Water, wind, ice, or gravity carry and move bits of broken rock from one place to another.

Product A physical “thing” that has weight and takes up space. (noun) Examples of products of the rock cycle: Magma Sedimentary rock
