2 What is Hyperbole? Hyperbole is: Used to create emphasis
Used to evoke strong feelings or to create strong impression Is not meant to be taken literally.

3 Most Importantly… Hyperbole contains statements that are exaggerated.
To identify hyperbole, look for exaggeration.

5 Some Examples… He has a brain the size of a pea.
I’m so hungry I could eat a horse. If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a million times.

6 More Examples… She is one-hundred feet tall. I nearly died laughing!
My dad is going to kill me if I don’t get an “A” on my report card!

9 Tall Tale! We’re going to read a tall tale called “Thunder Rose” in our Reading textbooks. While we’re reading, try to find examples of hyperbole (exaggeration) that make this a tall tale, and furthermore, an example of hyperbole.
