3 Research and Development Interests  Development and maintenance of the MPJ Express software: –First released in September 2005 under LGPL (an open-source licence): Growing number of users around the world –The Johns Hopkins University, California Berkeley, MIT, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Oak Ridge National Lab  Parallel programming models for “many-core” processors: –Moore’s law is now realized with increasing number of cores –Very soon, every programmer will be a parallel programmer –I am interested in programming models, runtime libraries, frameworks for these next-generation processors  Java Card Development for the Telco sector: –Applications run mobile phone’s SIM card –Potential for implementing and managing Value Added Services (VAS) 3

NWFP through the use of ICT based Tele-healthcare: In collaboration with Association of Pakistan Physicians in North America (APPNA) Funding Agency: HEC and the US State Dept under the Pak-USAid Sci. & Tech. Program Amount: ~ $ 225,000 –CollAborative Multicore Programming Using Scientific Java Messaging through the PMI2CONNECT Program (CAMPUS-CONNECT): In collaboration with University of Reading and University of Southampton Funding Agency: British Council under the PMI2 Connect Research Co-operation Award Amount: ~ £ 40, 000 –Network Performance Monitoring for PERN: In collaboration with Stanford Linear Accelerator Center ( SLAC) Funding Agency: Higher Education Commission Amount: ~ 37 Million Rs. –Establishment of Super Computing Research and Education Center: Funding Agency: Higher Education Commission Amount: ~ 34 Million Rs. 4
