8 Subject A Transition Issues  Will oversee the implementation of the Subject A transitional plan for academic year 2004-05 for students who receive C- or less in a Subject A course during Fall ‘04.  This will involve working with UNEX to accommodate our students through concurrent enrollment. This is an implementation of the mechanism passed by the Academic Senate last Spring for providing those students a pathway for satisfactory completion of the Subject A requirement.

10 Subject A Permanent Status Issues  Will determine permanent arrangement to be implemented in Fall ‘05.  Will define working versions of alternate models by the November 2004 to enable adequate time for Senate deliberation.  Will also define models for the future status of English Composition and writing across the curriculum.  Will recommend optimal administrative organization for future management of Subject A.

12 Entry Level Student Success and Four Year Graduation  Will utilize a set of approaches to address the conversion factor problem while improving student success by developing “Introduction to the Discipline” seminars, workshops, sections, and colloquia.  These will increase student experience in small to moderate class size in the lower division and build on our experience with Freshmen Discovery Seminars.  On-campus and off-campus models for these types of courses will be surveyed in Fall ‘04, and several will be selected for pilot implementation in Fall ‘05.  Review of courses that might be appropriate for increased unit assignment will also be continued.
