Everything in one easy picture:

1)DIVERGING PLATE BOUNDARY MID OCEANIC RIDGES RIFT VALLEYS VOLCANOES EARTHQUAKES Ex: mid Atlantic Ridge and African rift valley SEE PAGE 92

Iceland:

2) CONVERGING PLATE BOUNDARY DEEP OCEANIC TRENCHES SUBDUCTION ZONES EXTREME CONTINENTAL MOUNTAIN BUILDING Ex: Marianas Trench, Peru-Chile Trench, Himilayan mountains See page 103-104

Oceanic VS. Continental: Peru-Chile Trench: deep water and Andes Mountains

Andes Mountains:

Oceanic VS. Oceanic: Marianas Trench in Pacific: very deep water

Japan Trench fissure at 6200 m.

Continental VS. Continental: Himilayas: extreme mountains

Mt. Everest:

Everest in better perspective:

3) TRANSFORM BOUNDARIES LONG FAULT LINES EXTREME EARTHQUAKES Ex: San Andreas Fault See pg. 97

San Andreas:

4) SPECIAL “HOTSPOTS” Caused by hotspots in the aesthenosphere, volcanoes can appear even in the middle of a plate. As the plate moves slowly, one hotspot can create a chain of volcanoes. Best example is the Hawaiian island arc.

Hawaiian Island Arc:

Mauna Loa Volcano

Mauna Loa lava flow
