2. POPULAR EVENTS Carnevale is a huge festival in Venice with special dinners and dances. Festa del Redentore is the oldest continuously celebrated date on the Venetian calendar.

3. CARNIVAL OF VENICE The Carnival of Venice is an annual festival, held in Venice, Italy. The Carnival ends with Lent, forty days before Easter. Masks have always been a main feature. Traditionally people were allowed to wear them between the festival of Santo Stefano, December 26, and the start of the carnival season at midnight of Shrove Tuesday. As masks were worn from October 5 to Christmas. People could spend a large portion of the year in disguise.

4. POINTS OF INTEREST The Venetian Lagoon is the large bay area in Venice. One of Venice's well known landmarks is the old Bell Tower located in San Marco Square. In addition to a beautifully designed bell tower, it is the tallest structure in Venice. A beautiful old clock tower can be found in San Marco’s Square in the centre of Venice. This clock was so reliable, that in 1858 it was made the official timekeeper of Venice.

5. RESTAURANTS  Da Fiore is considered one of the best restaurants in Venice. Osteria Alle Testiere honors the tradition of cooking fish from the lagoon.

6. THEATRES Teatro La Fenice was named after the Phoenix, because just like the Phoenix, despite being destroyed by fire many times, it has always been rebuilt.

7. FAMOUS BUILDINGS The Doge's Palace is where the ruler of Venice lives, and it also was the seat of the government of Venice for centuries. St. Mark's Basilica is the most famous and most recognizable of all the churches in the city of Venice. The Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute is one of the most photographed structures in Venice. The church was built after a deadly wave of the plague had passed.

8. FAMOUS PEOPLE PAPA GIOVANNI XXIII Pope Giovanni Roncalli) XXIII was the Patriarch of Venice from 1953 to 1958. Jacopo Tintoretto Tintoretto was a student of Titian and performed his studies as a painter in Venice. He created his first masterpiece in 1548, "The Miracle of St. Mark".
