7. 1964 Ladies and Gentleman, It’s The Beatles. The first Civil Rights bill was passed to stop discrimination. Cigarette boxes printed the warning, “Smoking can be hazardous to your health.”

8. 1965 President Johnson ordered bombing raids on North Vietnam. Americans begin protesting the War. The Astrodome, the world’s first roof stadium is built.

9. 1966 The Legendary Walt Disney Dies. Long Hair is in! Psychedelic clothing hits the streets!

10. 1967 Dr. Christiaan Barnard performs the first heart transplant. Bonnie and Clyde was a box office hit! To Sir with Love by LuLu is number one on the charts.

11. 1968 Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. Robert Kennedy is assassinated in June. Shirley Chisholm is elected as America’s first black congress women.

12. 1969 The decade ends with the Woodstock Music festival on a farm in upstate New York. On July 20 th, 1969 at 4:18 p.m. Apollo 11 landed on the moon. “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

13. The 60’s It was a time of triumph and tragedy, a time of war and a longing for peace. It was a time of hope and despair. It defined a generation and would forever change the world. It was the 60’s!
