Lessons Aimed At Helping Saints Define, Describe, & Defeat Sin

Lesson 6 – Sins Of Omission  Why some have this type of sin… Ë Hard to do or receive  Some will not teach or practice a part of God’s will they find difficult  Their solution Ù they omit it  Peace with God only comes when we are willing to do His will Psa 119:165

Lesson 6 – Sins Of Omission  Why some have this type of sin… Ë Hard to do or receive EXAMPLES  Teaching on immodesty 1 Tim 2:9-10 1 Pet 3:3-5  Teaching on M/D/R Mt 19:1-12  Teaching on church discipline 1 Cor 5:4-5 2 Thess 3:6

Lesson 6 – Sins Of Omission  Why some have this type of sin… Ë Hard to do or receive EXAMPLES  Fear Mt 25:14-15, 24-25 Mt 26:69-75 Gal 2:11-14  Rebellion 1 Sam 15:22-23 Isa 30:9 Acts 7:51 Rom 13:2

Lesson 6 – Sins Of Omission  Remedying this type of sin  If attention is given to Biblical principles taught throughout, more than likely we’ll minimize the likelihood of being guilty of this type of sin  Some suggestions…

Lesson 6 – Sins Of Omission  Respect for God and His word  Man does not normally omit / neglect the words of someone he truly respects  God has more than proven Himself worthy of our respect & obedience Psa 119:6 Lev 26:15-18

Lesson 6 – Sins Of Omission  A willingness to at least try to comply  At the very least, man owes God an effort to at least try to obey Mt 25:27  Even if the requirement is unknown or hard, we must find a way Heb 11:8, 17  We can’t allow weariness to discourage us from making an effort Gal 6:9

Lesson 6 – Sins Of Omission  A desire to be pleasing to God  If one truly desired to please a superior, he would put forth great effort  How much more so re: God  We will not be guilty of sins of omission if we really want to be well pleasing to God 2 Cor 5:9 Eph 6:5-8 Col 3:22-24

Lesson 6 – Sins Of Omission  A love for God  Perhaps the strongest motivation of all  True love for God will not allow us to see His commandments as a “burden”…and thus likely to be omitted 1 Jn 5:3  A good principle in Gen 29:20

Lesson 6 – Sins Of Omission  The passage that is most “on point” in this discussion = Jas 4:17  “Know” to do right & not do = SIN  Not discussing ignorance  “Know” must eventually give way to “Do” (taught earlier – Jas 1:21-25)

Lesson 7 – Sins Of Commission  By contrast to those sins of the previous lesson, these are sins where one does what God has forbidden  They would be unlawful things contrary to what God has revealed…both actions as well as attitudes

Lesson 7 – Sins Of Commission  While not an exhaustive list, we will focus on these sins in 3 areas…  …Sins of the heart  …Sins of the tongue  …Sins of the flesh

Lesson 7 – Sins Of Commission Sins Of The Heart  Jesus taught the heart (mind, inner will) is the source of either a man’s goodness or his evil intentions  It is the “tree” that produces fruit Lk 6:43-45
