What is Body Image Body image is based on your thoughts and feelings about the way your body looks. The way you think other people are judging your appearance can influence your body image. Poor body image comes from negative thoughts and feelings about your body image. Having negative view of yourself can affect your behavior in many ways. You may avoid social situations, not speak your mind, avoid activities that expose your body, or express your uniqueness through styles of clothing or hair.
Body Image and Self-esteem Body image is a major factor in self-esteem; which is the way you think and feel about yourself. Like body image, self-esteem can also be based on how you think other people look at you as a person. People with low self-esteem may not always feel confident about themselves or how they look. People with good self-esteem often have positive and confident attitude about their body and mind, and recognize their strengths as well as personal value and worth. Good self-esteem helps you keep a positive outlook on life and makes you feel proud at the person you are, both inside and outside. It gives you the courage to try new things and the confidence to make healthy choices in life.
Does Appearance Matter? Beauty comes in many shapes and sizes. Majority of people don’t look like models. Even models have ahad a lot of assistance to achieve their look Many of the images that are portrayed in magazines and commercials have been digitally modified to enhance models. NO One is perfect!
Tips for improving your body image Recognize that your body is your own, no matter what shape, size, or color it comes in. Everyone, even the most perfect-seeming celebrity has things about themselves that they can’t change and need to accept. Make a plan to exercise every day and eat nutritious foods. When you hear negative comments coming from yourself, tell yourself to stop! Give yourself 3 compliments every day.
