5 Movement Strengthening 6 Principles National Movements are the primary agent for their own self- growth. A multilateral approach grounded in the 3 pillars. The concept of Subsidiarity. The commitment to Selectivity. A Process orientation. Clarity of roles and responsibilities.

6 Lessons Learned GOP for Movement Strengthening is not: 1) a solution for weak movements or those in crisis, 2) a long term unlimited source of access to external funding resources, 3) a short-term band-aid solution without results, or 4) a process without an end or expected advancement or transformation.

9 Research and Analysis: Research and assessment of viable concepts and programmes for resource mobilisation. Framework for Analysis – Theory of Change Quantify data – statistics to support case Quality measurements – stories and testimonials This requires research on prospects and on YMCA capacity to implement signature youth empowerment programmes.

10 Preparedness: Assessment and strengthening of capacity for governance, management, and implementation of programmes. - Conduct a gap analysis - Develop a plan and strengthen capacity (include staff and volunteers) This requires self-critical, open, transparent processes to ensure good governance, management, and accountability of resources.

11 Information Management and Reporting System –Capacity for proposal writing, reporting, and documentation –Donor tracking information management system –Letters of acknowledgment –Invoice letters –Monitoring and Evaluation and impact assessment documents –Audits

12 Internal Relationship Building : Dialogue and development of internal relationshipsand includes volunteers and staff. This includes the resource mobilization efforts with the Investors Circle (35 YMCAs and 34 individuals ) and with donor partner YMCAs to support capacity building and signature programmes.

13 External Relationship Building: Dialogue and development of relationships with external prospects and opportunities for alliances. This effort requires intensive investment in raising awareness and understanding of the scope, impact, and reach of the YMCA as a potential partner to achieve shared goals with a donor prospect. Policy documents are required.

14 Accessing and Securing Resources: Develop materials for negotiation of resources from internal and external sources. –Annual Report and Financial Statements –Case Statements and Project Proposals –Concept Papers –Signature Youth Empowerment Programme Briefs –Letters of Introduction or Inquiry

15 External Collaborations – Strategic Alliances –Assess opportunities for Strategic Alliance partnerships and collaborations for increased financial and/or technical capacity with external organizations –Negotiate terms of understanding and MOU agreements (Examples: WUN and NAYDO) –Analyze and quantify value of cooperative agreement –Sign cooperative agreements

16 Key to Success Ensure good communications and accountability, Consistently monitor, measure, and evaluate progress, and Assess real YMCA change and transformation.
