5 Major Guidelines: ◦ Trend analysis: Compare with last Census(es) ◦ Regional/district differences ◦ For some indicators comparison with other countries in the region ◦ Analysis based on international concepts and definitions

6 MAJOR REPORTS FOR 2012 PHC Four main type of reports: ◦ Pop. Distribution and Distribution by Age and Sex - Statistical Tables ◦ Basic Demographic and Socio-Economic Profile Reports - Descriptive : National (3), Regional (30) and District Profiles (150) ◦ Eleven Thematic Reports ◦ Analytical Report (Summary of all thematic Reports) ◦ Community Profile Report ◦ Others like methodology, cartographic, Census atlas and population projection

7 INDICATORS: o Traditional indicators (Demographic, population dynamics); ◦ National development programmes like National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty; ◦ International development Programmes notably 2015 MDGs; ◦ Others on demand (where possible)

8 ANALYSIS OF CENSUS DATA – 2012 PHC REPORTS Analysis Teams: - ◦ Lead consultant ◦ Subject matter specialist from NSO ◦ Technical staff from MDAs ◦ Interns: Masters' or PhD students in demography, population studies, statistics from local Universities ◦ Support staff from IT and GIS Department Review Team National and International Consultants

9 Orientation Workshop:  Team introduced to main objective of the reports  Software available for data analysis  Outline of the intended reports  Working modalities Two Review workshops

10 ANALYSIS – 2012 PHC REPORTS (Cont’d) Deliverables for Each Team: ◦ Thematic Report (Analytical/Technical) ◦ Popular Version (results highlights) ◦ Policy Brief (Addressing national and international development agenda) ◦ Fact sheet (summary of facts and figures) ◦ Analytical spreadsheets/models

11 CHALLENGES ◦ NSO do not have enough technical capacity to analyse policy related issues, and hence ◦ Reliance on external technical staff and consultants which is expensive; ◦ Limited knowledge on partners from MDAs on Census data analysis; ◦ In depth analysis need data from other source/survey but reference date and methodology may be different (e.g Fertility (CEB Vs Birth History in DHS).
