1 My Honors Project By

2 Speak to your instructor
Speak to your instructor. Before you begin this activity, have a conversation with your instructor about how you plan to approach it. My teacher thought the following ideas I had were exceptional:

3 Choose an object from your environment from which you will make a scaled down replica. The object you choose must be a composite figure, meaning a figure composed of more than one geometrical shape. In other words, you cannot simply choose a triangle or rectangle. You must choose something like a car, an object that is made of many different geometrical figures.

4 Make a construction of your object on a piece of paper, using a compass and straightedge.

5 Make a note of any transformations (translations, reflections, rotations, or dilations) that occur in the construction.

6 Measure the object you have chosen.

7 Determine the ratio between the object and your replica or model
Determine the ratio between the object and your replica or model. Keep a record of all mathematical calculations used throughout your process. You will need to submit these to your instructor.

8 List the materials from which you will make your model.

9 Record the construction of your model using either a digital camera or video camera. You must record the following: original object materials various images of model being created completed model

10 Write a proof demonstrating how your model is similar to the object you chose.

11 Using complete sentences, answer each of the following questions:
What object did you choose to make a model of and why? How did you determine the appropriate dimensions between the object and its model?

12 What steps did you take to create your model
What steps did you take to create your model? Be sure to include all mathematical calculations. What challenges, if any, did you experience during this process?

13 What geometric principles, properties, postulates, or theorems did you use to make your model?
What did you think of this activity?
