What is Social Justice in Math Making math education relevant to and attainable for students by using current events, historical data or social issues that affect everyday life. Don’t think you have to do things so differently! Rather, you are simply trying to incorporate relevant and real information. Social Justice in Math When a lesson can be grasped by all students it is social justice. When a lesson uses real world data that is pertinent to the students it is social justice.

The Pig Pen Problem A Farmer has 9 pigs and he wishes to put the pigs in 4 pens. The only problem is each pen has to have an odd number of pigs. How can he do this?

Now it is time to get creative You may work alone or with a partner to create a social justice inspired lesson. At the end we would like to have you present what you have worked on.
