RDMS CMS Participation in CMS Computing Activities during 2006 Participation in SC4 and SCA06: Russian sites follow the SC4-CSA06 chain; LCG installation of CMSSW; participation in Phedex data transfers (load test transfers and heart beat transfers) – permanently from May to September – volume of monthly data transferred – about 10 TB; SC4 production: participation in CMS event simulation 2 RDMS CMS sites (JINR and SINP) were ready and registered for CMS production – 500 000 events done – 1 % of total amount (~50 millions events) Job Robot (user analysis jobs) - 8.6% of total number of CMS jobs were submitted to three RDMS sites (ITEP,JINR,SINP) Phedex FTS T1-T2 transfers during October-November (IHEP, ITEP, JINR and SINP) – some problems with transfer due to not stable level of bandwidth and not quite proper settings at T1 FTS servers for RDMS institutes (CNAF-T1 served as FTS-server for JINR, FZK-T1 – for SINP, ASGC-T1 – for IHEP and IN2P3-T1 – for ITEP)

Usage of CPU resources at Russian Tier2 during 2006 IHEP INR ITEP JINR LPI PNPI RRC KI SINP MSU it is ~ 2 % of CPU resources used for all CMS jobs (production, Job Robot, analysis and private users jobs) in the LCG-2 infrastructure 32 members of CMS VO at RDMS - 5.3 % of a total number of CMS VO members: JINR – 15 IHEP – 6 Kharkov -4 SINP -3 INR -2 ITEP -2 CMS sw is installed at RuTier2 LCG-2 sites ~ 15 % of CPU resources at RuTier2 have been used for CMS jobs but more than 1% is private users jobs (running at PNPI and RRC-KI)

5. Current situation (March, 2007) CERN-T1 as FTS server for Russian sites (since February) ! It is the first step CERN-PROD to serve as T1 for RDMS We still have serious connectivity problems - we need a real support from Ru-Tier2 networking experts We couldn’t continue Phedex transfers to SINP and ITEP as there is no free space at SEs A full-range participation of RRC-KI, PNPI, INR and LPI in CMS computing activities can be accomplished only under existence of computing support groups (person) in each of the institutes New version of Phedex ( 2_5_0_1 ) has been installed RDMS Tier-2 has growing from 4 ( IHEP, ITEP, JINR and SINP) to 8 sites (RRC-KI, PNPI, INR, LPI added) – fixed in February

To follow CMS computing requirements we need: transfer rates to be at least not lower than 20 MBs (and support from RuTier2 network admins) reasonable ratio between CPU performance and disk space ( just now available CPU are at 25% of needed but available SE disk space is less then 10%!) system administrators support at all 8 RDMS CMS sites nomination of the responsible person for CMS software support in each of the participating institutes the important CMS milestone: Computing and Software Systems and Physics Procedures must be ready for CSA 07 - by the beginning of July 2007 Conclusions
