6 Assessment Science will be assessed annually beginning in 2007-2008 Cut-scores will be set in summer of 2008 Science scores will be used in school QPA calculations Science is not used in AYP calculations at this time Students assessed at 4 th, 7 th, and high school

7 Assessment All questions will be multiple choice Two questions per tested indicator Number of tested indicators 4 th grade- 22 7 th grade- 30 High school- 30 Physical Science- 15 Life Science- 15

9 Assessment Cohort group for science will be juniors All juniors must take both halves of the test in Spring of 2008 Used to set cut scores Freshmen or sophomores may also take assessment if district chooses, but scores not used for cut-score setting Opportunity to Learn without retesting will be functional in 2008-2009 There will be no retesting for science Testing window for science is March 17 th through May 9 th Alternate testing window is January 2 nd through May 9 th

10 Formative Assessment The Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation (CETE) will roll-out formative items for the KCA Test BuilderKCA Test Builder Written by WestEd Aligned to same item specs as assessment Delivery date is December Released sample items on flipcharts

13 Additional Endorsements Regulation Changes adopted by the State Board on June 13, 2007 Additional methods for adding endorsements to a teaching license are now available: Secondary licensed science teacher can add an additional science endorsement by verifying a score on the appropriate science content assessment Any licensed teacher can add a middle level content endorsement (math, science, history/gov., English language arts) by verifying the following: verification through a teacher education institution that they have 15 semester credit hours in the content a middle level pedagogy course OR recent accredited experience of one year of more in grades 5-8 passing score on the appropriate middle level content assessment Any secondary licensed teacher can add any new secondary endorsement OR Any teacher with a middle level content endorsement (math, science, history/government, English language arts) can add the secondary level to that content endorsement by verifying the following: Completion of 50% or more of the approved content area program including the methods course A passing score on the appropriate secondary content assessment (Special education endorsements are not included in the above options ) Direct any questions to Beth Fultz 785.296.5138
