3 1.How did the land area of the Allies compare with that of the central powers? The land area of the Allies was many times greater than that of the Central Powers. 2. Where were most of the colonial possessions located? Africa mainly. Several also in South Asia and Southeast Asia.

4 3.What major battles took place along the Western Front? Ypres, Verdun, Marne, Caporetto The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Belgium (to a point) 4.What nations along the Western Front stayed neutral?

5 5.How close did the Germans get to Paris? Their farthest advance into France took them to the outskirts (within 30 miles) of Paris.

6 6.In what battles did the US Expeditionary force take part? Belleau Wood, Chateau-Thierry, Second Battle of the Marne, Meuse-Argonne offensive, St. Mihiel No. At war’s end, the Allies were near the German border south of Luxembourg, but did not cross it. 7.Did the allies have to invade Germany to end the war?
