3 Erasmus General Information: Program of the European Union Named after Erasmus from Rotterdam History and composition: Founded in 1987 Aim: Promotion of cooperation between universities in Europe, and mobility of students and teachers Study or internships with a stay from 3-12 months in length 28 member states from the EU and five other European countries Erasmus = EuRopean Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students Part of the EU program for lifelong learning Called “Socrates” until 2006 Open for all students studying at college on a regular basis Total budget of 450 Mio. Euro from the EU treasury

4 Leonardo da Vinci General Information: Exchange program for university graduates Connects international mobility with practical learning phases Program of the European Union for job-related cooperation of vocational education and qualification Named after the Italian universal scientist Leonardo da Vinci Total budget of 1.725 Mio. per year Supports European citizens in acquiring international skills Increase of placements in companies and educational institutions by 2013 to 80,000 Monthly subsidy of 350-500 Euros for travel and language grants Min.3-max. 12 months in foreign countries About 200 universities take part at the time

6 Au-Pair History: Young Englishwomen came to France to teach English to children in hostfamilies To be able to do that, the Englishwomen learned French Today the aspect of childcare dominates In the 19th century, the term Au Pair became common usage General Information: Au-Pair from French (literally „on a mutual basis“ ) Requirements: unmarried and childless Minimum age : 17, maximum age : 30 Stay abroad without high costs Host family: offers accommodation and catering Au-Pair: in return helps in childcare and the daily housework No holiday or student exchange! Classic Au Pair countries are Great Britain and France followed by Spain and Italy Foreign languages improvement
