Neptune By Vicente And Leo

Explorations The Voyager 2 spacecraft was launched in 1977 and it reached Neptune on Aug 24, 1989. So, Voyager 2 took about twelve years to reach Neptune. The Voyager 2 was traveling at 17,043 m/s (55,920 ft/s). It would need about 17,565 years at this speed to travel a complete light year.

Rings Neptune is one of four planets in our Solar System with planetary rings. Neptune has five rings: Galle, Le Verrier, Lassell, Arago, and Adams. Its rings were named after the astronomers who made an important discovery regarding the planet. The rings are composed of at least 20% dust with some of the rings containing as much as 70% dust; the rest of the material comprising the rings is small rocks.

Days and Years One day on Neptune takes about 16 hours (the time it takes for Neptune to rotate or spin once). Neptune makes a complete orbit around the sun (a year in Neptunian time) in about 165 Earth years (60,190 Earth days).

The Making of Neptune Neptune is a sister ice giant to Uranus. Neptune is mostly made of a very thick, very hot combination of water (H2O), ammonia (NH3), and methane (CH4) over a possible heavier, approximately Earth-sized, solid core. Neptune's atmosphere is made up mostly of hydrogen (H2), helium (He) and methane (CH4).

Neptune's Moons 1.Triton (Largest moon) 2. Nereid 3. Naiad 4. Thalassa 5. Despina 6. Galatea 7. Larissa 8. Proteus 9. Halimede 10. Psamathe 11. Sao 12. Laomedeia 13. Neso

Neptunes's Great Dark spot's The Great Dark Spot was a huge spinning storm in the southern atmosphere of Neptune which was about the size of the entire Earth. Winds in this storm were measured at speeds of up to 1,500 miles per hour. These were the strongest winds ever recorded on any planet in the solar system! The Great Dark Spot was first discovered when the Voyager 2 spacecraft flew by Neptune in 1989. When the Hubble Space Telescope looked at Neptune in 1994, the Great Dark Spot was gone and a different dark spot had appeared in the northern atmosphere of Neptune.
