2 GOALS & OBJECTIVES Set forth criteria for safe torch down roof system applications. Define & understand acceptable thermal barriers. Educate on safe torch setup & use as well as hazard recognition. Review heat related illness & burn symptoms and procedures for handling accidents & emergencies. Pass written & practical exam to receive certification.

4 PART I GENERAL RULES & SAFE WORK PRACTICES

5 1.All required PPE must be worn at all times during torching operations. 2.Inspect all tools and equipment prior. 3.Perform daily torching safety checklist prior to start of any torching activities. 4.Never torch over a combustible deck without an acceptable thermal barrier installed. 5.Never torch where flame cannot be seen. This includes any and all roof penetrations, vents, flashings, perimeter edge, etc.

6 GENERAL RULES & SAFE WORK PRACTICES 6)Use torch & flop or an acceptable thermal barrier & detail torch for curbs & flashings 7)Ensure safe & proper assembly and use of torches 8)Always have the appropriate number of fire extinguishers on the job, inspect prior to use. 9)Ensure a minimum of a 2-hour fire watch is present. 10)Only trained & authorized employees shall operate a torch assembly.

7 NERI SSOP Key Program Requirements All employees operating torches for the purpose of torch applied roof installations must be trained & certified via this program or equivalent. Employees must be recertified every three years or until employee fails to display proficiency and exhibit safe torch usage. Each member performing torch applied roof installations shall ensure DAILY CHECKLIST is completed by competent person. Review Safety Program Outline
