2 Acoustic, Sound or Vibration:
Measure sounds or vibrations, for example, earthquake tremores. Usually turned into voltage or (with sound) amplified. Geophone: converts ground movement into voltage, which are analysed for earth structure The Lace Sensor is a guitar pickup A microphone is an acoustic-to-electric transducer or sensor that converts sound into an electrical signal

3 Proximity and Presense: Activated by movement, or cuts in the light produced by machine.
A motion detector is a device that contains a physical mechanism or electronic sensor that quantifies motion that can be either integrated with or connected to other devices that alert the user of the presence of a moving object within the field of view A wired glove is a glove-like input device for human-computer interaction A Passive InfraRed sensor (PIR sensor) is an electronic device that measures infrared (IR) light radiating from objects in its field of view

4 Temperature: Measuring temperature in the atmosphere, object, etc.
A heat flux sensor is a commonly used name for a transducer generating a signal that is proportional to the local heat flux. This heat flux can have different origins; in principle convective-, radiative- as well as conductive heat can be measured A thermometer is a device that measures temperature or temperature gradient using a variety of different principles A microwave radiometer (MWR) is a radiometer that measures microwaves.

5 Pressure: Senses a change in weight on an object.
The term tactile sensor usually refers to a transducer, that is sensitive to touch, force, or pressure A pressure sensor measures pressure, typically of gases or liquids. A barometer is a scientific instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure A barometer is a scientific instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure

6 Force, Density or Level: Measure force or density of an object.
A hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the relative density of liquids A force gauge is a measuring instrument used across all industries to measure the force during a push or pull test. A strain gauge is a device used to measure the relative displacement between particles in the material body of an object

7 Optical, Light or Imaging: Sensors measuring light or with light.
A flame detector is a detector that uses optical sensors to detect flames. Infrared imaging is used extensively for military and civilian purposes. Military applications include target acquisition, surveillance and night vision. Non-military uses include remote temperature sensing, short-ranged wireless communication, spectroscopy, and weather forecasting. Photosensors or photodetectors are sensors of light or other electromagnetic energy

8 Navigation: Used to position objects in a space.
A gyroscope is a device for measuring or maintaining orientation A compass is a navigational instrument for determining direction relative to the Earth's magnetic poles. An altimeter is an instrument used to measure the altitude of an object above a fixed level
