Potential & Kinetic Energy
Energy The ability to do work The ability to cause matter to move The ability to cause matter to change Measured in joules & calories
Types of Energy Radiant (light, electromagnetic) Nuclear (atomic) Mechanical Heat (thermal) Sound Chemical You will see other types or forms of energy in books and on the Internet
Energy can be divided into two general categories: Potential Kinetic
Potential Energy Stored energy Energy of position The amount of usable energy in a body at rest Sometimes called GRAVITATIONAL POTENTIAL ENERGY
Potential Energy Can be calculated mathematically PE = (weight) (height)
Potential energy can be increased by: Increasing height Increasing mass
Kinetic Energy Energy of motion Energy an object has because it is moving
Kinetic Energy Can be calculated mathematically KE = (mass x velocity2)/2
Kinetic energy can be increased by: Increasing mass Increasing speed
Kinetic and Potential Energy
Unit 3 Energy and Work.
ENERGY REVIEW. What is energy? The ability to do work or make change in matter.
Chapter 5 Section 1: What is Energy?
Created by: Faith Cohen. Energy is the ability to do work or cause a change in direction, speed, shape or temperature of an object.
What is Energy? Forms of Energy
Potential and Kinetic Energy
Motion, Force & Energy Chapter 5.1 Pages
Do Now Finish the following sentence: “Energy is the ability to ____.” Write your completed sentence in your science journal. People often use the words.
Forms and Transformations
Chapter 4. The nature of energy Energy: The ability to do work or cause change All energy involves either motion or position Where are we using energy.
Chapter 13: Work and Energy
Energy and Energy Resources
ENERGY The stuff that makes things go.. What is Energy? - Energy = The ability to do work or cause a change in motion. -Measured in Joules (J) & calories.
Energy What is energy?. Energy is the ability to do work or cause change.
Energy. Energy & Work Closely related Energy: ability to do work Work: transfer of energy Both measured in Joules.
Energy Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. Potential pnergy is stored energy.
Chapter 15 Sections 1-2. Energy is the ability to do work. Energy is measured in Joules, just like work.
Energy POTENTIAL AND KINETIC. Objectives Explain the concepts of kinetic and potential energy. Understand that energy can change from one form into.
