2 Proper Nouns Proper nouns name a particular person, place, or thing. Capitalize the first word and each important word of a proper noun. Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse. Proper nouns are: Walt Disney Mickey Mouse

3 COMMON NOUNS Common nouns do not name a particular person, place, or thing. They are not capitalized. dog family teacher

4 Capitalization Rules Capitalize the first word and all important words in a title. Have you read The Adventures of George Hamilton?

5 Capitalization Rules Capitalize the days of the week and months of the year. Monday Saturday July December

6 Capitalization Rules Capitalize the first letter of an abbreviated proper noun. 1. Abbreviations often occur in addresses, titles in names, and names of days and months. 2.
