2 When is a micropipette needed? Micropipettes are precision instruments designed to measure and transfer small volumes of liquids.

3 Parts of a micropipette Shaft Volume adjustment dial Volume indicator Plunger button with two stops Stop one is used to acquire and then dispense a given volume of liguid Stop two is to eject the tip Attachment point for a disposable tip

4 To acquire a given volume Set the appropriate volume on the pipette using the dial control. Attach a tip to the pipette. Push in the plunger button to the first stop. Insert the tip into the sample. Release the plunger. The tip now contains.

5 To dispense a given volume Put the tip into the container where you want the sample. Press the plunger to the first stop. Remove the plunger from the container. Point the shaft into the tip waste container. Push the plunger through the second stop to eject the tip.
